Since 1869, when Chinese railroad workers first arrived in the area, the Asian-American community in Dallas has been a consistent and growing influence on the city. The entrepreneurial spirit of these hard-working immigrants imbued Dallas with enterprising character that can’t be found anywhere else.
There’s not just one “Dallas Chinatown,” but a number of unique and vibrant communities of Asian Americans from more than 16 nationalities. With more than a half-million Asian Americans in Dallas, you can find culture, art, community and shopping in a half-dozen Asian neighborhoods.
DFW Chinatown
DFW Chinatown is what many people think of when they hear “Dallas Chinatown.”
A hub of trade, commerce and culture for North Dallas’ Asian community located in North Dallas’ telecom corridor, this shopping center and its surrounding residential neighborhood has a great section of shopping and Asian food including the notable, home-owned, Gen Roku Japanese Grill.
Dallas Asian Trade District
With an expansive and fast-growing trade district located in North Dallas off Interstate I-35E, you’ll find more than 21 shopping centers that comprise over 300 stores and restaurants. The Asian Trade District is home to Dallas’ biggest retailer of fine Asian imports, Sam Moon. The Asian Trade District is also the new home to the luxurious King Spa & Sauna, a popular and family-friendly Korean sauna embraced by Dallas’ Asian-American community.
Garland, Texas
On the edge of Dallas proper, this bedroom Texas town near Lake Ray Hubbard has a thriving Asian American community centered around Jupiter Road and Walnut Hill Lane. This vibrant suburban neighborhood is home to many telecom and IT professionals and their families and is very active in art, culture and community.
Dallas’ Little India
Dallas’ Little India, located at the intersection of I-75 and Beltline Road, is filled with Indian food markets, gold and sari stores.
Little Pakistan in Carrollton
Dallas-Ft Worth’s largest Pakistan community can be found in the neighboring suburb of Carrollton on Trinity Mills. The neighborhood features the Al Markaz, a popular Indo-Pakistani grocer and restaurant with some of the best Samosas in Dallas.
