THE DALLAS CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU LAUNCHES WIN-A-TRIP TO DALLAS PROMOTION TO ASIAN TRAVELERS

July 6, 2009

Free Weekend Includes the Cattle Barons Ball, the Joule and much more.

Dallas is mostly known for the Dallas Cowboys football team, the TV show, Dallas¸ rodeo and horses. The Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau (Dallas CVB) hopes to change that perception by offering a weekend stay in Dallas compliments of American Airlines, The Joule Hotel and other company supporters. The weekend stay also includes two tickets worth $5,000 to the Cattle Baron’s Ball, one of Dallas’ premier social events and one of the largest fund raisers in the country for cancer research. Julianne Hough and CMA award-winning duo Montgomery Gentry will be the featured guests this year. Revel, the Dallas CVB’s advertising agency for the Asian market, developed and coordinated the promotion, and will manage all aspects of the giveaway. The promotional campaign will also target New York City, Atlanta, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston. The Win-A-Trip program began July 1 and will continue through August. A winner will be selected in September. More information about the event can be viewed at www.DallasAsian.com.

“Dallas is so much more than people expect it be,” said Arnel Trovada, president of public relations at Revel. “Dallas has one-of-kind art as seen in the Nasher Sculpture Center and we also have the largest collection of Spanish art outside of Spain.”

Over the last few years, the Dallas CVB has made a concerted effort to create awareness about Dallas to all leisure travelers including the Gay and Lesbian, Black, Hispanic and Asian markets. The diverse community is a welcome surprise to those people who have never visited before. Other facts about Dallas that are not well known include:

* Neiman Marcus was started in Dallas. The oldest and very historic Neiman’s store built in 1914 is located in the heart of downtown on Main Street.
* The Crow Collection of Asian Art is the private collection of Asian art donated to Dallas by Trammell and Margaret Crow and is free to the public. The museum is one but a few in the country (www.crowcollection.org).
* The Dallas Arboretum located near downtown Dallas is one of the top botanical gardens in the Southwest (www.dallasarboretum.org).
* Dallas has more five-star restaurants per capita than New York City.

The ninth-largest city and part of the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the nation, Dallas covers approximately 343 square miles and has a population of 1,240,499. The ultra modern and sophisticated city attracts worldwide travelers, making it the No. 1 visitor and leisure destination in Texas.

Dallas is centrally located and within a four-hour flight from most North American destinations. DFW International Airport is the world’s third busiest airport, offering nearly 1,600 flights per day and providing non-stop service to 128 domestic and 37 international destinations worldwide.
